There are a lot of professions that a lot of entrepreneurs can turn into amazing companies. I’m running a web/marketing business, and there are a lot of us out there (even when you look in the Atlanta area).

In running a business, it’s easy to be mediocre. There are a lot of paths that lead to an area that is “just fine.” They are easy to find, well-traveled, and typically a bit safer.

However, when you set your sights on the extraordinary, there are fewer paths.

The higher and more specific your goals and standards become, the fewer options you have—which counterintuitively, actually makes them easier to achieve.

Decisions become more “black and white.” Even though there are less paths, that does not mean the path is easier. Simple ≠ easy.

This type of plan takes an entire mindset shift. A lot will need to change about how you think and how the people on your team think.

… because when the destination or transformation is minor, then very little needs to change about what you’re now doing.

Where there are a lot of paths to choose from, you don’t have to change much of anything – just input more into the system.

When there are fewer paths to choose from, you have to plan, use your time wisely, and surround yourself with A-players to get there.

There is quite a bit more risk, but a huge reward for those who go on the journey. The best views typically come with the most strenuous hikes.
