Complacency

Complacency is a killer.

I realized that firsthand through a few iterations of our business over the years. Getting out of a period of complacency is challenging because feels like you’re “starting over.”

Each time, I came out of it with:

  • sense of a new purpose (or at least a new set of operations),
  • a laundry list of things never to do again,
  • and typically a stronger connection with my mentors.

There is a line between being content and being complacent.

We’ll all step over that line into complacency more times than we care to admit over the years. When coming out of a season of complacency, the biggest thing for me has been defining:

  1. What will change because of this?
  2. How can I make sure that it sticks this time?
